The Monica Garcia Recall
This blog was created in order to shed light on the increase of class size in schools across LAUSD and the roll that Monica Garcia has played in the mismanagement of LAUSD funds. These funds include the stimulus money that was recently received by LAUSD. LAUSD as well as the Board of Education have chosen to fire approximately 3,500 teachers and allow classroom size to balloon in spite of the availability of stimulus dollars that can be used to keep 2008-2009 classroom norms. As more events unfold, it is the intention of the blog authors to keep the public informed, as well as initiate the process of recalling Monica Garcia from her post as President of the LAUSD Board of Education. Please feel free to voice your opinion in regards to this crisis.

It would be nice to know how much Monica spends on her personal staff. Shouldn't that be public knowledge? How many teachers would that save?
ReplyDeleteAccording to what Monica herself said at the Roybal Learning Center, she pays herself $45,000 per year. However, there is no way to verify this since this information has not been made public. One suggestion, could be to somehow obtain a copy of her tax returns during the years that she has been President of the Board of Ed.
ReplyDeleteKen... yes. That should be public record and the information can be requested by the city. Since LAUSD is funded with TAX dollars. All tax payers are, as required by law, entitled to request information as to HOW their money is being spent. I'll find out how to make such a request and post details when I find out.
ReplyDeleteYou need to do your homework and get all your facts straight. Instead of wasting time trying to verify how much she makes we should unite as teachers and decide on furlough days to save more jobs. Have you not been paying attention to what is happening around the world? The school district, the city of Los Angeles and the State of California are all under a budget deficit. Stop the finger pointing that is not getting us anywhere.
ReplyDeleteWe should not take furlough days because there is no guarantee that the money will actually be used to save teachers. How would we verify that? We are in a deficit because the people in charge have been irresponsible. For some many years they threw away money on OCR and Waterford and lots of stuff that doesn't work. What's wrong with questioning these people? Are they on a pedestal?
